The munchies explained…

For some, getting the munchies is a blessing; it can help with eating disorders, necessary weight gain, and nutrition issues. For others getting the munchies is a curse… on the other side of the coin causing unwanted weight gain, bloating and high blood sugar. Some say there are ways to avoid the munchies, but science disagrees- it doesn’t matter how you consume your marijuana, getting the munchies can happen to you.


So what causes the munchies? According to an article by CNN, “THC interacts with receptors in our brain that regulate emotions, pain, and our sense of smell and taste," said Janice Newell Bissex, a registered dietitian. "It can also promote the release of the hormone ghrelin, which stimulates hunger." So blame it on the THC and the way your brain processes things, but chances are, you’re unavoidably getting the munchies if you get high enough.
