Second Hand Smoke
What comes to mind when you hear the term “second hand smoke”? For me it’s an old lady chain smoking indoors while babysitting her grandkids, exposing them to the toxins. The reality however is that all smoke will create second hand smoke which poses a threat to those around the person smoking. So okay… I found one of the threats to the public of using marijuana. And while second hand smoke is a big threat, and causes immense amounts of damage to non-smokers and pets around the world we know that people aren’t chain smoking joints the way people do with cigarettes. Because one doesn’t smoke joint after joint after joint… (ok you get the idea) there is less second hand smoke being produced by marijuana users than by cigarette users.
I’m going to toss the argument against marijuana use due to risk of second hand smoke for two reasons. The first reason is that marijuana is only smoked at a fraction of the rate cigarettes are, which means less second hand smoke is being created. The other argument is that people can consume weed in different ways (i.e. vaping or edibles) which do not create second hand smoke. So while it may be an argument against lighting up, there are ways around it and we shouldn’t be talking about banning the use of marijuana, but just perhaps the consumption via smoking it.
